Empowering our Community Through Jiu Jitsu

About the Programme

The Stance Jiu Jitsu Institute – Community Inclusion & Wellbeing Program is a 12-month initiative providing free and subsidised Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes for local residents.

Our mission is to make martial arts accessible to everyone, regardless of background or income.

The programme covers:

  • Weekly structured classes for Kids (7–11), Youth (13–15) and Adults (16+).

  • Professional coaching with head coaches and assistants.

  • Subsidised uniforms and equipment (so cost is not a barrier).

  • Community events and open mats to celebrate participation.

Eligibility Criteria

This programme is open to residents of Greenwich who meet one or more of the following:

  • Children aged 7–11 and young people aged 13–15 whose families face financial barriers to sports.

  • Adults (16+) who are currently inactive or underrepresented in sport (e.g. women, ethnic minorities,

    low-income groups).

  • Families and individuals referred by schools, health services, or community organisations.

  • Participants who commit to attending at least 2 sessions per week during the programme.

    Who can apply?

    • Children (7–11), Youth (13–15), and Adults (16+) living in Greenwich.

    • Priority is given to those who face barriers to sport:

      • Families on low income or Free School Meals.

      • Women and girls.

      • Ethnic minority groups.

      • People currently inactive in physical activity.

    How we check eligibility:

    • We ask for your postcode to confirm Greenwich residence, such as utility bill, school letter, NHS letter.

    • For financial need, we accept self-declaration (no documents required unless requested).

    • Birth certificate, school ID, or passport (under-16, school letter accepted).

    We monitor eligibility data only in aggregate form for funders, individual details stay private.
