    General Etiquette

    • Please aim to arrive early. If you are late, kindly let your instructor know before stepping onto the mat. Please wipe and clean your feet before stepping on the mats.

    • Attendance without a valid membership is not permitted.

    • Show respect to all training partners, instructors, and teammates at all times.

    • Refrain from rude or offensive language.

    • Discrimination, bullying, or any form of aggression will not be tolerated. Membership may be revoked in such cases.

    Hygiene & Cleanliness

    • Do not train if you are feeling unwell or have a contagious condition, including skin infections.

    • Always wear a clean gi or rashguard to class. No zippers or buckles on training gear.

    • Fingernails and toenails must be kept short and clean.

    • Use the provided antibacterial wipes before stepping onto the mat.

    • No makeup and body lotion during training, as it may stain uniforms.

    • All cuts and abrasions must be properly covered before class. Inform the instructor immediately if you bleed on the mat and clean the area with the provided wipes.

    On the Mat

    • Shake hands or bump fists before and after sparring.

    • Apply submissions carefully and release immediately if your partner taps.

    • Only practice what the instructor is currently teaching unless given instruction otherwise.

    • Remain quiet and attentive while the instructor is speaking.

    • If you are not actively sparring, please sit on the bench or off the edge of the matted area to make space for others.

    • Notify the instructor of any injuries and complete an incident report if needed.

    • No food is allowed in the dojo. Please keep water bottles off the mat.

    Facilities & Personal Conduct

    • Footwear must be left on the shoe rack at the entrance.

    • Please wear sandals or footwear in the restroom area—never go barefoot.

    • Wash your hands after using the bathroom.

    • Use changing rooms for getting dressed—changing in open areas is not permitted.

    • Jewellery and piercings must be removed before training.

    • Participants must maintain good personal hygiene and avoid strong body odours.

    • Parents: Please ensure your child has used the restroom before class begins.

    Recording & Respect

    • Mobile phone use is not permitted on the mat unless granted prior permission.

    • Respect the beliefs, backgrounds, and values of others.

    • If a participant shows signs of losing control or aggressive behaviour, inform the instructor, and they may be asked to leave the mat.

We greatly appreciate your cooperation in keeping Stance Jiu Jitsu Academy a clean, safe, and welcoming place for all. Let’s support each other and train with respect and integrity.

    Thank you!

In providing our space and services, Stance Jiu Jitsu Academy is dedicated to ensuring that no customer, member of the public, or Stakeholder is subject to unlawful discrimination.

    Purpose of This Policy:

    • Promote equality, fairness, and respect for everyone in our community.

    • Provide a welcoming, inclusive space free from discrimination.

    • Eliminate any form of discrimination under the Equality Act 2010, including the protected characteristics of:

      • Age

      • Disability

      • Gender reassignment

      • Marriage and civil partnership

      • Pregnancy and maternity

      • Race (including colour, nationality, and ethnic or national origin)

      • Religion or belief

Our Commitments at Stance Jiu Jitsu Academy:

    • Foster equality, diversity, and inclusion as core values in our academy and community.

    • Take action to eliminate discrimination, including:

      • Direct discrimination – treating someone less favourably due to a protected characteristic.

      • Bullying – using power to humiliate or undermine others.

      • Victimisation – punishing someone for raising concerns or complaints in good faith.

      • Harassment – unwanted behaviour that violates dignity or creates a hostile environment, including sexual harassment. This may also be subject to criminal law under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.

All forms of discrimination toward any Stakeholder at Stance Jiu Jitsu Academy will be treated as serious misconduct. Complaints will be taken seriously and addressed promptly and appropriately.

    We will continue to:

    • Maintain a training environment free from bullying, harassment, victimisation, and unlawful discrimination.

    • Promote dignity, respect, and appreciation for differences among all Stakeholders.

    • Provide training and guidance to staff, coaches, and volunteers to ensure understanding of their rights and responsibilities under this policy.

    • Offer equal opportunities for development and progression, with decisions based on merit and free from bias, except where specific exceptions are legally permitted.

    Complaints Procedure:

Any Stakeholder who feels they have experienced unfair treatment under this policy is encouraged to raise the issue through our formal grievance process. All concerns will be investigated thoroughly, and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken where necessary. Anyone submitting a complaint in good faith will not face retaliation. However, knowingly false or malicious claims will be addressed accordingly.
